Alvin Cailan grew up in Los Angeles, CA in a household where hard work was no stranger. Because much of his parents' time was dedicated to providing financial stability for the family, there wasn't a lot of opportunity for fancy meal making or elaborate sit down dinners. So, Alvin quickly and happily learned his way around the kitchen.
With the help of his parents, Alvin was able to land a job as a dishwasher and soon worked his way up to earning the title of kitchen manager. Although he enjoyed the time he spent hanging out over a stove, Alvin decided to go in a totally different direction after graduating high school. He studied business, graduated, and then began working for a well-established construction company. Without a doubt- Cailan was making enough money to last him the rest of his days and then some. But, he was miserable. He hated working for the man, he hated working in an office, and he hated committing his hours to an occupation that he really had no interest in.
When he asked himself what it was that made him happy, it didn't take long for the answer to pop up. From that moment on, Cailan threw himself into learning how to become a great chef. Whether it was studying culinary arts, working for free, or working for very little- Alvin put his heart into it.
It's no coincidence that Alvin Cailan founded one of the most sought after breakfast locations in Los Angeles. Nor is it a coincidence that people line up outside of his second restaurant's doors just to get a taste of what's inside. The young chef handed his life over to his passion for cooking and followed it full force. Eggslut and Ramen Champ are simply two great results of his commitment, skill and sacrifice.
