Manny Briseno's love for art began when he was a kid. If he wasn't drawing something, chances were he was watching his cousins sketch out their graffiti designs. After high school, he received a scholarship to attend Otis College of Art and Design. Manny lived far from the campus and did not have a car at the time, so he was forced to take long bus rides on a daily basis. Briseno enjoyed Otis, but his scholarship did not cover the full term required for graduation. He weighed his options and decided to discontinue his enrollment, however he took what he learned with him.
Manny didn't really consider being a tattoo artist until he got a phone call from his cousin, asking him to finish a tattoo he had started on himself. Not having any previous experience, or knowledge of how to complete the task- Manny just went for it. That moment pushed Manny to practice more and more. He practiced on himself as much as he could and was once temporarily thrown out of his house when caught by his disapproving father.
Although there were many people who did not support him at the beginning stages of his career, there was one person who fearlessly stuck by him- his girlfriend. Not having any place to tattoo people, Manny's girlfriend would drive him around to house calls and even sleep with him on the living room floor when he did not have a room of his own. Now the artist tattoos twice a day, seven days a week, with a $400 minimum. He was recently engaged to the person who believed in him the most and they're expecting a baby girl. If you ask Manny, he won't hesitate to tell you that he's happy.
