It's crazy to think that Miami, Florida native Matthew Herget's first time painting a mural doubled as his first time EVER painting. When Matthew was a kid, he used to doodle with his grandmother to pass the time. The idea of being an artist didn't really hit him until he took a trip down to his hometown's Art District. One look at the murals on the walls had Matthew hooked.
After creating a few renderings, Matthew walked into a local gallery and pitched himself to the owner. Things didn't work out at that time, but the gallery next door signed MR Herget and offered him a large wall to paint on. Having just dropped out of college with very little money and no real experience in painting, Matthew hesitated for just a second. He then made the decision to say yes to the offer and successfully completed his first mural. In no time at all, media outlets such as VICE and Juxtapoz took notice of Matthew's talent. His most recent show in LA, "there's no place like now", brought out a diverse and large crowd that was filled with individuals from all over. Fascinated by the colors and energy of the paintings, attendees lined up to talk to the artist of the hour.
If you missed the show, there's no need to worry. MR Herget is just getting started.
